Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of crossing the line against his best friend in elementary school. category of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. I understand why it won the Camera d'Or at Cannes 2024, but for the love of my life I couldn’t watch the movie halfway through. A single celebrity mom was called into her son’s school by an incompetent teacher and a pair of administrators to discuss an incident involving her son and his boyfriend. It’s a great premise and Armand had my incredible attention, thanks to the amazing opening shot and overall camera work up until that point. But then it veers into self-indulgent territory and I still have no idea what the director was going for with the melange of sudden dance sequences and an actor laughing for 3 minutes straight. That’s where it all started and the whole thing is so frustrating that it never recovers. (Viewed at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024.)
