Tale
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living committing murders for the biggest sums of money
He soon meets his match in the form of a tenacious British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “The Day of the Jackal” is set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then French president, Charles de Gaulle.
Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
The series moves the setting to the present day. If you’ve titled a series with “Jackal”, you also have to provide some determination and quality.
The budget was definitely there
That’s the case here for the first 20 minutes, but then (as is often the case) it skyrockets. The set design is good.
But the script is bad, often just stupid
The camerawork is decent, without too much artificial tremor, but a lot of blur. A “Jackal” just shouldn’t be seen here, they should have called it “The Day of the Auto Bomber.” To the actors: Eddie Redmayne does a serviceable job, but Lashana Lynch was pretty much the biggest casting mistake I’ve seen this year.
Not worth turning on
A new season of “Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November schedule for more!
